Music for Oedipus the King was commissioned by the Avalanche Theater Company and premiered on July 11, 1990, at the Church Street Theater in Washington, DC, directed by Chris D’Amico. The music I wrote included ensemble singing, solos, and incidental music.
Critics praised it as “music of considerable grandeur and mystery” (the Washington Times) and “haunting and odd” (the Washington Post).
Since the live performances were never recorded, here are some excerpts of the electronic accompaniment I created which, even without the words, give you a good idea of the feel of the music:
2. "voice who knows everything"
3. "follow his track" + "when I look to the past"
